You shouldn't need to do so more than every month or so, and too often is actually sort of bad for the partition. Have you got many of your S5 clips on the drive?

I try not to, but when it takes forever for word to open I do the defrag. I'm wondering if it's because it's a second hand LT and it's getting old.

Not a bad thing, all I have watched are quite good What I was going to suggest though is that in my experience video files(and large files in general) tend to bog down a hard drive. You might see a pick up in speed if you were to move them onto a secondary drive or partition not associated with your OS.

Even though I have 69.2GB that's only half full? There is another drive on my computer that's called a Presario RP that is about 3/4 full, could that be causing a problem? And sorry, but what do you mean by partitioning? I don't have the money for a secondary drive...
