Where were the warp nacelles on the Kelvin? I saw what looked like the engineering section on the ventral side and what looked like a smaller engineering section on the dorsal side. I also saw impulse engines on the aft of the saucer section and blue impulse engines on the aft of the larger engineering section but no nacelles.
The engineer speaking into a classic communicator was a good tip to TOS but I liked that many of the other members of the crew were wearing headsets, also latter we see Scotty wearing what looks like a HUD.
I also like that you can clearly see the phaser cannons on the haul, also that some effects were red beams some were red pulses and others were blue pulses.
No one said anything about a transmission before Nero appeared on screen.
I like the away team monitoring.
I like that the ship carried enough shuttles to evacuate the entire crew without using escape pods.

It only has one nacelle. I forget whether it's the tube on top or the tube on the bottom.

the nacelle was on the bottom while the top held the deflector dish and engineering section.
the rear impulse engine on the lower nacelle wasn't an impulse engine, it was a warp engine but they're warp drive was offline so it barely pushed them.
the various kelvin weapons were: 'pulse cannons' 'phasers' and 'phase cannons', also the narada's torpedoes are called multi-vector transphasic torpedoes!
No one said anything about a transmission before ayel appeared on screen coz he hacked into their system.
the use of shuttles was good because it was kinda like lifeboats fleeing a sinking ship! but also coz the kelvin didn't have escape pods!
wanna discuss this further? my G-mail is billus580@gmail.com

I'd say for such an early starship design, the Kelvin help up better than the top of the line starships in the fleet that was shredded!

I thought it was a great opener, that really grabbed your attention and introduced you to this new style of Trek.
My main gripe with the scene was what I'd call the "Star Wars Alien" (the big headed thing). It was almost as if they were doing that just because they could. Pedantic I know, but if that's the only grip then it can't be that bad.
I thought the whole sequence had the right amount of emotion, especially the setup to George's demise. Bit of a heart wrencher when he told Mother Kirk that he loved her.
Back to the actual battle. I can understand the comments about being disappointed that the Kelvin didn't put up much of fight, but perhaps that's the point. She was completely outclassed (granted it was by a scabby Romulan mining vessel), but that only helped hammer home the hopelessness of the situation.

That mining vessal was fitted with Borg Tech, the prequal comics that came out before the movie will tell you in more details and if your playing Star Trek Online which takes place in years after Spock and Nero goes through time some of the missions are dealing with Romulans using Borg Tech or reserching with Borg Tech.
Just thought I would fill you in on that. so you know it wasn't just a mining vessel.
Chris
