What did you think of the Kelvin battle?

I was geared up for this battle because I like the look of the ship and it has featured in most of the trailers/tv spots ... I was not disappointed at all! I also thought the sound effects for the Kelvin's weapons sounded better than the sound effects of the Enterprise' weapons.

Personally, I thought it was brilliant. I <3 Robau.

I also liked the back-ground com' from Starfleet command ... "Alert captain Robau to precede with caution" .... "could this be Klingon?"!

It was great. As I said in the review of the soundtrack, the way they used Giacchino's score instead of overbearing sound effects was pure genius and made it a huge emotional punch.

I've not really had a good look around here for a while, so forgive me if I ask questions that have already been answered.

blue pulse type phasers and normal phasers.

personally I'm a fan of the multiple types of weaponry, and just how durable the Kelvin is. the interior also looks much more like a starship I'd expect, rough and industrial.

As critical as I've been about the rest of the movie, I did love the Kelvin battle. It was everything it should have been--exciting, moving, intense.

Not sure about the Kelvin uniforms. They looked a little too future TNG for that past time period. Almost as bad as their early spandex years. Something about the form-fitting, that made them a little sleek compared with the greyish NX sets. It's a shame they didn't just use the Enterprise-era flightsuits... maybe redone the denim colours, to reflect different departments.

The "Polarise the Viewscreen" line was a punch the air moment though...

This was a really good scene in my opinion. I am always one for a good space battle, and putting one at the start was sheer genius, it gave us a little taste of things yet to come.

My only issue is it is never stated what class the Kelvin is. The closest I can find is the Apollo class from Star Trek: Legacy, but I don't know. That is something I would really like to know. Not related to the fight so much, but one of thos little details that needs telling.

I was disappointed. The battle was too quick and to be honest, I hate the cameras being jerked around so much.

I thought it was a great opener, that really grabbed your attention and introduced you to this new style of Trek.

My main gripe with the scene was what I'd call the "Star Wars Alien" (the big headed thing). It was almost as if they were doing that just because they could. Pedantic I know, but if that's the only grip then it can't be that bad.

I thought the whole sequence had the right amount of emotion, especially the setup to George's demise. Bit of a heart wrencher when he told Mother Kirk that he loved her.

Back to the actual battle. I can understand the comments about being disappointed that the Kelvin didn't put up much of fight, but perhaps that's the point. She was completely outclassed (granted it was by a scabby Romulan mining vessel), but that only helped hammer home the hopelessness of the situation.

I gave tissue warning to friends who haven't seen it yet. I told them the first five minutes are intense, and very emotional.

The other thing I liked about this battle is that it is placed before the opening titles. This is something different for Star Trek.
