Dominic Keating auditioned for ST09 role
Written by Derek Kessler on Sunday, 20 April 2008
Dominic KeatingIn an interview in the latest issue of Star Trek Magazine, Dominic Keating (LT Malcolm Reed, ST: Enterprise) revealed that he auditioned for a part in Star Trek (2009), that of James T. Kirk's uncle, back when the Captain-to-be hadn't even decided to leave Iowa to become, as Keating described it, "a spaceman."

Quote"It was to play Jim Kirk’s uncle in the Midwest, where [James T. Kirk] grows up, before deciding to be a spaceman. I only got to read one scene, so maybe it was just that scene. I know I have it a good read. I didn't say anything at the time, but I'm sure, even if they'd liked me, they'd go, 'Well, who is this guy?' They’d say, 'Oh, he played a part in Star Trek…' And that it'd be, 'No.' So that’s not going to happen. Would have been fun."

Keating also addressed Star Trek: Enterprise and the effect that Manny Coto had on the show:
QuoteThe one thing I noticed in season four, and no detriment to Brannon [Braga] or Rick [Berman], was that the had a guy given the pole position, who was absolutely gagging for it. The life blood that came int the fourth season was palpable, and you saw it and felt it, whereas Rick and Brannon had been writing Star Trek for 15 or 16 years.

Also inside are articles delving more in depth into Enterprise, comparing Kirk's style to Picard's, and of course, more on ST09. The latest issue of Star Trek Magazine is on stands now.
