Just like last year, the two Spocks were together again at the Grand Slam convention in Burbank, California. With filming now complete, you might think that the two of them have something more to talk about than they did a year ago, but if you did you would be wrong. Alex Kurtzman was also in attendance at the science fiction summit, and revealed a few tids and bits about the upcoming movie.
Among all the panels and discussions and interviews, there wasn't much new stuff out there, as it seems the media felt the need to rehash everything that's been reported on all of the Trek sites out there already. The various tid bits are below.
Star Trek (2009) will be rated PG-13.
According to Kurtzman, the intent was to "reinvent" the Star Trek franchise, and the best place to do that was to go back to the original.
The Starship Enterprise will be assembled in space, and parts of it will be built on the surface.
Nimoy says this is the biggest movie on which he has ever worked.
While Nimoy did not like the death of James T. Kirk in Star Trek Generations, to attempt to force Shatner's Kirk back into the new movie would be "damaging."
The story will delve into Spock's backstory as well as Kirk's. It will deal much more with the half-Human/half-Vulcan conflict that defined Spock's character.
