It's just second unit shooting, but the crew for Star Trek (2009) has found itself up in Bakersfield, CA, shooting some scenes that apparently are to be set in Iowa. As some of you may recall, Iowa is the homestate of James T. Kirk, and 11-year-old Jimmy Bennett has been cast as the young version of the Captain-to-be, so it would stand to reason that the scenes with Bennett would be taking place in Iowa. The whole shoot was underwraps until there was a vehicular accident on the road near the shoot involving a crew member, who is projected to make a full recovery.
A TV crew went out to cover the accident, which took place in Bakersfield fields about two hours north of the Paramount Pictures lot. They stumbled across the filming crew, which was working on "Corporate Headquarters," which if you'll recall, has been Paramount's codename for ST09 for some time now (first revealed by Headquarters Casting several months ago).
Kern County, where the shoot is taking place, issued the filming permit and cited Paramount's typical desire for secrecy, not even revealing to the locals or the media what project they were working on. Rick Davis, the Kern County Board of Trade Executive Director did report that the shoot was bringing an estimated $2 million worth of business to the area, in the form of 10-15 locally-employeed craftsmen, hotel accomodations, meals, and gas.
Adding to the mystery of the location shoot was this: A vintage red Corvette. As in the automobile.

No idea who is inside.
