Speaking with TrekMovie.com, Star Trek (2009) producer Damon Lindelof covered many bits of the production universe, including a rating of his Trekkiness (he considers himself a 5 out of 10) and the possibility of there being Lost connections in Star Trek.
Lindelof is a member of what has been labeled The Supreme Court of Trek, namely, producer/director JJ Abrams, writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and executive producer Bryan Burk. On a scale of one to ten, Lindelof rated Orci a level 7 Trekkie, himself a 5, and Abrams, Kurtzman, and Burk as being between 1 and 4. Lindelof himself has seen every episode of The Original Series and much of The Next Generation, as well as all ten previous Trek movies. He cites The Wrath of Khan as his favorite movie, TNG as the top series, and the TNG finale 'All Good Things' as the best episode of Trek, if not "the best series finale of any television series ever."
He was cautious to say if there will be any Lost easter eggs or connection in Star Trek as there were in both Mission: Impossible: III and Cloverfield, saying "Trek is its own universe and we would never impinge on it with something that affected story."
What Lindelof says is the best part of Star Trek in general is not the exploration or cool space battles. It's the character relationships. "What always has been awesome about Trek for me, and what makes this movie great, is the idea of this real team of people. This iconic crew of people and each person has their own function and they all interrelate with each other in interesting ways. Although the center of the movie is the relationship and conflict between Kirk and Spock, the reality is, when we are on the set…when they are all together — Scotty and Uhura and Spock and Kirk and Chekov and Sulu and Pike — that you go ‘wow’ This is what it is all about, the crew."
