As it would turn out, Cincinnati Pops director Erich Kunzel has a thing for Star Trek music. As we told you a few weeks ago, he's going to be headed up to Canada in June to direct the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in Star Trek: The Music, which will be hosted by John de Lancie (Q) and Robert Picardo (The Doctor). The week after that, he's going to steal the scores and the hosts and return to Cincinnati, Ohio, to do it again, this time with the Cincinnati Pops at the popular Riverbend music festival on June 28th.
Just as with the Toronto concerts, Kunzel will lead the orchestra through the history of Star Trek music, from Alexander Courage's original Star Trek theme to Jerry Goldsmith's theme for Voyager, along with selections from the films and series inbetween. The concert will be narrated by de Lancie and Picardo.
The Cincinnati Pops' edition of Star Trek: The Music will be held on June 28th at 8 PM in the 20,000 seat open-air Riverbend Music Center, designed by famed architect Michael Graves and built in 1984 on the banks of the Ohio River. Tickets are currently on sale and range from $18 for lawn seating up to $46 for stage-front seats.
