Greg Ellis joins the ST09 cast [SPOILERS]
Written by Derek Kessler on Tuesday, 19 February 2008
Greg EllisAccording to TrekMovie.com, English actor Greg Ellis will have a role in Star Trek (2009) as the Enterprise Chief Engineer Olsen. The 38-year-old actor is probably best known for his part as the villain Michael Amador in the third season of 24. Ellis has appeared in numerous films and tv shows, including Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Spoilers inside.

That's right, Ellis has appeared in Star Trek before. He played the Cardassian dissident Ekoor in Deep Space Nine's 'What You Leave Behind.' He's also had parts in The X Files, CSI, Knight Rider (2008), Titanic, and Beowulf.

But he's going to be the Chief Engineer. What about Scotty? As we know, ST09 will be a prequel of sorts, so it stands to reason that there might be a point where we won't see Montgomery Scott as the Chief Engineer of the Starship Enterprise. In the same vein that we won't see Chris Pine's Kirk as the Enterprise captain in the beginning, we won't be seeing Simon Pegg as Scotty early on. According to TrekMovie.com, he'll be a civilian and... he'll have a midget sidekick (which Headquarters Casting was calling for several weeks ago). Seriously, we can't make this stuff up.

This all falls in line with the casting of Bruce Greenwood as Captian Christopher Pike; it stands to reason that we will be seeing the Enterprise before Kirk and crew come around.
