The space shuttle Endeavour, stacked with its orange 500,000 gallon external fuel tank and dual solid-fuel rocket boosters, rolled out to the space shuttle launch pad yesterday. The shuttle is scheduled to launch on March 11 on a mission to carry the first segment of JAXA's Kibo Laboratory to the International Space Station.
Sitting atop the Apollo-era crawler transport, Endeavour completed the 3.4 mile trip from the massive Vehicle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Center to the launch pad in just over three hours. The STS-123 mission will be commanded by US Navy Captain Dominic Gorie. Greg Johnson will be Endeavour's pilot, with Robert Behnken, Mike Foreman, Rick Linnehan, Garrett Reisman, and JAXA astronaut Takao Doi making up the rest of the crew.
STS-123 will be the 122nd shuttle flight, the 21st flight for Endeavour, and the 25th shuttle flight to the International Space Station.
