Well, it's official. After dissapointing attendance in the past few years, the perennial fan-run convention - Starbase Indy - will not see 2008. Despite having David Reddick and Star Wars' Ray Park (Darth Maul) on hand and focusing on getting the fans involved in their own entertainment, SBI07 failed to live up to expectations and led to the decision to not continue to convention. Amongst the saddness over the passing of SBI - which has in the past served as the official meet of TrekUnited - there is a light at the end of the tunnel: Vulkon Entertainment will be holding its own convention in the place of SBI.
Vulkon has been running conventions since 1979 across the country, so you can rest assured that they know what they are doing. They will take over Starbase Indy's Thanksgiving weekend slot at the Indianapolis Marriott East this year. Vulkon holds both Star Trek and Stargate conventions, in addition to the popular Sea-Trek Cruises. Their major conventions annually are held in Columbus, Cleveland, Orlando, Houston, and now Indianapolis. Past guests have included such stars as Avery Brooks, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and many many others.

"Well I don't particularly like the way you smell, either."
