Hoping to capitalize on the burgeoning market for entertainment on mobile devices like cell phones and smartphones, Paramount Pictures has created a new Mobile Entertainment division. The international unit will fall under the direction of Paramount's digital entertainment division and will be lead by Sandi Isaacs, the Senior Vice President of Mobile and Interactive Entertainment.
Since 2006 the digital entertainment division of Paramount has been creating mobile websites for its films (though as of now there does not appear to be one for ST08). The Mobile Entertainment division will take over these sites and head the creation of original content for distribution to mobile devices. They are planning on creating games, videos, and more downloadable media (backgrounds, ringtones, etc) for future mobile movie websites. They have also struck exclusivity deals with a number of cellular carriers, limiting specific movie sites to access from specific phones.
