Speaking with Empire on the '25 Most Exciting Movies of 2008,' JJ Abrams took a moment to address the canon concerns that some fans have expressed over Star Trek (2008): "Star Trek is something I grew up with and love, I'm completely respectful of the Star Trek canon and I feel that there's a great movie to be made." Abrams is also not afraid of the reaction of the fans, saying, "I'm embracing them and I love the people who care about that series, as they should. I think that we can do them proud."
Additionally, Empire provided their predicitions for Star Trek's box office totals, estimating the film's budget to be $150 million and projecting a mere $115 million domestic US gross, with another $135 million coming in from international box offices. We'll just have to wait and see.
