According to Scotsman.com, the town of Linlithgow is attempting to secure its place as the European premiere for Star Trek, even though the West Lothian town of 13,370 doesn't have a cinema. Linlithgow is by Trek lore the birthplace of Enterprise engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott. In September of last year the Linlithgow Story Museum unveiled a memorial plaque to Scotty, who is supposed to have been born in the town in 2222 - two hundred fourteen years from now.
Linlithgow has even recieved some support from Vulcan. Vulcan, Canada, that is. The town which has built a name for itself off of Star Trek tourism, is itself working to secure the Canadian, if not North American, premiere of ST08, which is currently set for December 25, 2008.
Provost Tom Kerr (the Scottish equivalent of an American mayor) remains confident that Linlithgow can overcome such logistical complications like the complete lack of a screen on which to show the film, saying "West Lothian would be honoured to host the first screening of the new Star Trek movie."
