P2 Entertainment (formerly Perpetual Entertainment) has ceased further development of the MMORPG Star Trek Online. The game itself and its content - but not the code developed by P2 - will be transferred to another software company, delaying the release of Star Trek Online for an indeterminant period likely to amount to years.
According to the report published by WarCry, P2 Entertainment will focus their development efforts on their profitable Perpetual Platform, which serves as the basis for popular games like those creted by BioWare.
When Star Trek Online finally premieres there is little doubt that it will be profitable, so it makes sense that despite the financial troubles faced by Perpetual that there are other companies willing to acquire the game, even without the code. With the license from CBS and the content (stories, characters, settings, etc) from P2, whoever takes over Star Trek Online will have to start coding from the beginning.
