An automated Russian cargo ship docked with the International Space Station yesterday morning, carrying aboard Christmas gifts for the two American astronauts aboard, and birthday gifts for Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko, who turned 46 on Saturday. The Progress 27 spacecraft also carried 2.5 tons of fuel, oxygen, food and other supplies for the ISS crew.
The Progress 27 cargo drone launched from Kazakhstan's Baiknour Cosmodrome on Sunday and spent three days catching up with the orbital station. Aboard were 2,921 pounds of dry cargo, 110 pounds of oxygen, and 1,918 pounds of rocket propellant to be used for the occassional boost the ISS requires to maintain its orbit.
Among the supplies were the fixings for making Expedition 16 crewmember Peggy Whitson's 'space hamburgers.' She requested dinner rolls and beef patties be added to her personal cargo allotment following the removal of rehydratable patties from the station's standard menu. Also sent up were fresh tomatoes, lettuce, and onions, along with spicy sauces to help hold it all together in the micro-gravity environment of the space station.

"Oh, excuse me! I didn't mean to interrupt your little quest! Captain Ahab has to go hunt his whale."
