Sorry about the downtime folks, fortunately, that didn't stop any Star Trek news! Today we'll look at Harlan Ellison's calmer side, another set of spy shots, news on Mr. Paul McGillion (really!), and some other items, like what Zachary Quinto thinks drives Spock. It's time for the round-up!
Entertainment Weekly: Shaving eyebrows and giant ear lobes Zachary Quinto said that we will know within a few weeks whether his pal Greg Grunberg (with whom he has appeared on Heroes) will have a role in Star Trek. Also, Leonard Nimoy apparently has very large ears in relation to his own, which means large prosthesises to match the look of the two actors playing the same character. Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
Trek Movie Report: Harlan Ellison not that angry Look out, there's some colorful metaphors in that video. Ellison explains exactly why he was so angry, and the clauses in the WGA contract that give him ownership of elements like the Guardian of Forever. He apparently loves JJ Abrams and says that he doesn't need to steal from him. And even though Ellison did not talk to Abrams, Kurtzman, or Orci, he did get confirmation from somebody inside Paramount that those supposed plot elements are in fact part of the Star Trek script. Also, he wants to bomb the internet out of existance because people have a tendency to take things and run with them. Sometimes, that doesn't seem like such a bad idea. Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
Long Beach Press-Telegram: Star Trek filming at City Hall The filming crew for Star Trek has taken up residence at Long Beach City Hall. The massive concrete, metal, and glass structure has been used in the past for science fiction filming locations, most notably in 1978 for Battlestar Galactica. What exactly will be filmed at Long Beach is still an unknown, but it looks like Abrams is following through on his promise to do as much on-location shooting as possible. Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
JFX Online: More paparazzi photos reveal Starfleet dress uniform The picture snapping snoops at JFX Online have brought us another glimpse onto the Star Trek set. This time, we see a woman dressed in a green uniform/suit thing with the Starfleet delta shield very prominently displayed upon her left chest. They are claiming that this is the new Starfleet formal wear (possibly for the same Academy graduation we saw earlier). Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
Sci Fi Magazine: Roberto Orci: ST08 will be a "reintroduction" In an interview with Star Trek writer Roberto Orci and producer Bryan Burk, Sci Fi Magazine delved into the meat of the film and how they approached reinvigorating Star Trek. "It's so important to get out the message that this, in a way, is Star Trek Zero. Its a reintroduction. [...] If you are not a fan, those things will be an introduction, and it wont require you to know anything [about Star Trek]." Orci said, "Our goal is twofold. One is to make sure that the fans, who have been stewards of the continuity and who are some of the most intelligent fans of any franchises ever, that they be satisfied with anything that has the name Star Trek on it. But more importantly, the goal is really to introduce casual fans and people who dont know Star Trek at all to this universe and to connect it to today. The goal of Star Trek is that if you dont like sci-fi or know Star Trek, this will bring you into the world." The latest issue of Sci Fi Magazine is available now. Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
Trek Movie Report: McGillion filmed a small part for Star Trek - not Scotty According to TMR, Stargate: Atlantis actor Paul McGillion so impressed JJ Abrams and crew with his audition for Scotty that they even though they gave the role to Simon Pegg, they still found a small speaking part for McGillion anyway. The role put him on screen with Chris Pine (as James T. Kirk), and finished filming back in November. Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
Star Trek Magazine: Quinto's understanding of Spock "He’s a genuinely magnanimous spirit. I think that he uses his logical perspective for good, and to improve people’s circumstances and situations which ultimately enhance the esteem of the universe. And I think he’s sort of constant. He can weather the pendulum swings of human emotions and he can see through things that other people might not be able to see through because they’re blinded by their own visceral or emotional reactions." The latest issue of Star Trek Magazine is available now. Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
