Well, have I got a slew of news for you this week. First up is some more rumor mongering about the design of the famous Starship Enterprise, then we have a word from Scotty, production news on Hemsworth, and another set of spy shots from the good folks over at JFX Online (the outfit that brought us the first spy photos that unveiled the presense of Jennifer Morrison). That's the summary, here's the news... in the round-up!
Rumor Control: AICN: Not doing our research before we post Moriarty - remember him? He's the guy that went on a rant about Shatner not not being in Star Trek - has gone off and posted a link to MovieTome, claiming that it shows the new redesigned Enterprise. While the MovieTome page is currently down (they probably made the same mistake), I can tell you straight up that they're wrong. The Enterprise displayed was created by Gabriel Koerner (graphic effects extraordinaire for Battlestar Galactica and Speed Racer) for the Ships of the Line book released in 2006, a book I happen to own. Of course, people failed to actually do their research as to what this was and even TrekWeb picked up the story. This is not the new Enterprise. I repeat: NOT. That said, I've always really liked Koerner's redesign. It's just beautiful, in my not so humble opinion. For reference, here's the image the MovieTome posted (click on any of them for the full size):

Here's the image taken straight from my copy of Ships of the Line:
The caption reads: Many concepts were proposed for the upgrade. Most agreed on the value of a newer, more efficient power plant. Others, however, argued instead for a streamlined hull configuration that offered superior warp-field geometry. Strill others demanded enhanced science capabilities or mor powerful weapons systems. In the end, elements of almost every proposal found their way into the design of the uprated Constitution-class starships. Gabriel Koerner.
And here's a beauty shot that brings the two together:

Gorgeous, eh? We can only hope that the graphic artists actually working on Star Trek have the good sense to take some design cues from Koerner, as he certainly knows what he is doing. For more shots of the Koernerprise, including some pretty slick videos, click here. Be sure to check out the rest of his work at his official website. Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
TrekUnited: Simon Pegg guarded while reading the script Invariably, Star Trek actors are being asked about the movie wherever the go, even if they're recieving an award for something entirely different. Such was the case with Simon Pegg, the new Scotty, at the British Comedy Festival where he won the Ronnie Barker Writer's Guild Award. He said that the secrecy surrounding the project is extreme - he was watched by a Paramount security guard while reading the script. Regardless, congratulations! Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
News.com.au: Chris Hemsworth done Star-struck by Hollywood, Australian actor Chris Hemsworth just flew on home from the set of Star Trek, apparently done with filming. His role as George Kirk, the father of James T. Kirk, must not be a large one. Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
JFX Online: Chris Pine and lady in green spy shots They are claiming to have the very first pictures of Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, and he's wearing an all red uniform. Yes, red. Apparently Zachary Quinto as Spock was also present at the undisclosed location in Orange County (no shots of Quinto) that was serving as a Starfleet Academy graduation site. The two were wearing the same uniform, which was not the same uniform as the cadets that were graduating. No word on exactly what uniform it is they were wearing, though my spidey senses say dress uniform. Also, a lady with wavy black hair and green-tinged makeup (an Orion?) was spotted strolling around the site. Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
