Simon Pegg, the new Scotty in JJ Abram's Star Trek (2008), just picked up the Ronnie Barker Writer's Guild Award at the British Comedy Festival. The Ronnie Barker award goes to Britain's top comedy writer for the year, in this case Pegg was honored for his work on the surprise hit Hot Fuzz and Run, Fat Boy, Run. Speaking with Sky Showbiz, Pegg was asked about Star Trek, to which he said, "I don’t know much about it yet, I’m just about to set out and start doing it, it’s going to be great. It’s very hush-hush; when I read it, I read it with a security guard near me - it’s that secretive."
Also worth noting is that with filming for Star Trek currently under way (Leonard Nimoy is expected to start scenes today - Zachary Quinto and Jennifer Morrison have already been sighted filming), we can expect to see Pegg on set somewhat soon. Will the beard have to go, or will Scotty now have facial hair, or maybe just the mustache he had in the movies? Hard to say, but the beard has been somewhat of a signature of Pegg's for some time now.

"How many people does it take, Admiral, before it becomes wrong?"
