The teaser trailer for Star Trek (2008) will be shown before another JJ Abram's movie, the New York City monster mystery horror show 'Cloverfield,' which is also known by the date on which it will premiere, 1-18-08. While not much is known about the shaky action camera style movie, we have learned that the trailer for Star Trek will show the construction of the Starship Enterprise, and that work on the trailer began before production of the movie itself.
There are two possible reasons for the use of Cloverfield: 1) both movies are Abrams flicks, and/or 2) marketing hopes to boost the sales of Cloverfield with Trekkies that are paying just to see the trailer and wouldn't otherwise be there. As is usual for movies these days, you can expect that the trailer will be up online a few days later on sites like Apple and Yahoo!
As previously noted, Cloverfield will hit the silver screens nationwide on January 18th, 2008, a full 348 days before the release of Star Trek.
