Captain Picard can act! At the 53rd Evening Standard Awards in London, Patrick Stewart recieved the Best Actor award for his much-lauded performance in Shakespeare's 'MacBeth.' The annual awards ceremony honors the best in British theater, and this year was held at the Savoy Hotel in London. Stewart, who played the title role in 'MacBeth,' was nominated against powerhouse British actors Charles Dance, Mark Rylance and Robert Lindsay.
'MacBeth' also won the Best Director award for it's show-runner Rupert Goold. The play, which ends its original British run on Saturday, has been sold out for the past several months. It will also be coming to the United States for a six week run at the Brooklyn Academy of Music starting in February. Earlier this year, Stewart won the Theatrical Management Association award for 'MacBeth.'
Speaking with London's Daily Telegraph newspaper, Stewart said, "I've never won an award like this, so it's brilliant."
