Sarek, father of Spock, has been cast. And the man's name is Ben Cross. A graduate of London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, Cross rose to international stardom with his breakout role as runner Harold Abrahams in the Academy Award-winning 1981 film Chariots of Fire. He will be seen in the upcoming Hero Wanted with Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ray Liotta. Cross joins his fictional wife Amanda Grayson (played by Winona Ryder) and fiction son Spock (Zachary Quinto) in Star Trek, which is set for release in theaters on December 25, 2008.
The character of Sarek appeared eight times throughout Star Trek, and was played by Mark Lenard all but once (a flashback scene in Star Trek V). Sarek was first seen in the original series episode "Jounrney to Babel," which revealed his estrangement to his son, Spock, and his last appearance was a brief shot in "Unification," which also featured Leonard Nimoy as Spock. Ben Cross has some very big shoes to fill.
