Star Trek (2008) Rumor Round-Up: 10/24/07 - 10/27/07
Written by Derek Kessler on Sunday, 28 October 2007
Star Trek (2008)In the interests of getting things back on track, this Sunday I bring you a shortened version of the Star Trek (2008) rumor roundup. On Tuesday you got a mega-sized version, so today you're getting Wednesday through Saturday. That's not to say that these days brought us less interesting news than the previous round, not at all. I'm just not going to sit on it for another week, that's all. So this wee we've got some more casting rumors, a smidge of plot rumor, and as always, possible spoilers galore. So enter at 'ye own risk, for the rumor round-up is nigh!

TV Guide: Keri Russell was in talks for a role
It's just an oh-so-brief tantalizing glimpse into wait could have - or maybe still could be. Russell says that she is currently in discussion for some film roles and that she talks to JJ Abrams "all the time." TV Guide asked her about Star Trek, and she said, "We were trying to work something out already, but I don’t think that is going to work out…but something may work out." And I must apologize for how annoying the interviewer is, but there's not much I can do about him.

MTV: Old Trek actors making themselves available for new Trek actors
According to Zachary Quinto, the original Star Trek actors are apparently making themselves accessible to their younger counterparts (in Quinto's case, Leonard Nimoy), and for that he thanks them. "What we create is something that will be among us - it won't be something that pits one person against another; the actors from the original are available if you want to engage them."

The Associated Press: No Shat
No, really? After Shatner himself admitted that he has not been contacted for a role in Star Trek, The Associated Press had to make sure for themselves. And they discovered that he's not in. That is all.

IESB.net: Could Josh Lucas be Captain Pike?
In a little bit of uncorroborated ST(08) casting rumor, IESB is reporting that Josh Lucas is 'wanted' by JJ Abrams and company for the role of Enterprise Captain Christopher Pike - this would be the first known instance of the Star Trek crew actually seeking out a specific actor for a part. Also rumored is the size of the Pike role, with reports indicating that Pike will have a big part, with Kirk not even making an entrance until much later in the film. Of course, with all the secrecy surrounding Star Trek, we might not know for another 423 days.
