The good folks over at Star Trek.com have seen it fit to not only give away a set of the upcoming Star Trek Remastered HD DVD season one (listing for $195, selling on Amazon for $133), but to also give the winner a Toshiba HD-A3 HD DVD player, which retails at $299. This is easily one of the more expensive giveaways that Star Trek.com has put on. Though the HD DVD set will hit the streets on November 20th, the contest runs for three days after that, and participants are allowed to enter once per day (that's 28 chances to win from now until then). The grand prize also includes two HD DVD movies with the player (The Bourne Identity and 300); first prize gets the TOS-R HD DVD set, but no player.
The Season One Star Trek Remastered HD DVD set includes both HD DVD and regular DVD episodes of the remastered Star Trek currently airing in syndication around the country. Every episode has been meticulously rescreened in high definition and been updated with modern special effects and computer graphics. The people in charge have taken great care to make sure that the new effects still match the look and style of the originals, but still bringing Star Trek into the 21st century. All of the episodes are presented in full HD (1080p) with 5.1 surround sound.
The Toshiba HD-A3 is one of the newest of a second generation of HD DVD players. It supports all HD DVD discs and can upconvert old standard definition DVDs to HD quality, outputs media at HD 1080i over HDMI or component out and also includes a digital optical audio port.
