Commander (and later Captain) William T. Riker, known in the real world as Jonathan Frakes, will be coming to FedConUSA! On Sunday June 15th only, Frakes will be present in Dallas, Texas for the inagural FCUSA convention. Frakes played Commander Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation and in Star Trek Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis, for a run of 14 years as the same character, not counting a cameo as Riker in the finale of Star Trek: Enterprise.
While Frakes is best known for his role as Commander Riker, he got his start in showbiz many years earlier. He was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA, in 1952 and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theater Arts from Penn State University. From there he went to Harvard and New York City, continuing his studies and appearing on stage in productions on and off Broadway.
Prior to landing the role of Riker, Frakes had recurring roles in Falcon Crest, Paper Dolls, Bare Essence, and The Doctors. He also appeared in the television version of The Nutcraker and the Dream West and North & South TV miniseries.
In addition to playing Riker in Star Trek, Frakes also was an accomplished director. He started with the third season TNG episode "The Offspring," and impressed the show's producers so much that he directed seven more episodes of TNG, three of Deep Space Nine, and three of Voyager. He also directed the critically-acclaimed motion picture Star Trek: First Contact and later tackled Star Trek Insurrection. He has since directed episodes of Roswell, the Thunderbirds and The Librarian movies.
