We reported to you just days ago that Chris Pine was in negotiations to play Captain James T. Kirk in the upcoming Star Trek (2008) movie, but that he had to decide between the JJ Abrams flick and Joe Carnahan's 'White Jazz,' with George Clooney which would film at the same time. According to Carnahan's blog, Pine has backed out of White Jazz and is set 'to boldly go where no man has gone before.' Add Chris Pine to the confirmed list.
Also in the blog posting, Carnahan - who directed the acclaimed 2006 film 'Smokin' Aces' - said that he has already snared Pine for a future film, 'Killing Pablo.'
Pine is a relative newcomer to Hollywood, getting his filming career started in 2003 with a guest spot on NBC's ER. He has since appeared in CSI: Miami, The Princess Diaries 2, Six Feet Under, Just My Luck, and Smokin' Aces. While the 2006 film Just My Luck, where he costarred with tabloid regular Lindsey Lohan was his biggest role to date, the film bombed horribly at the box office. Pine didn't really catch the attention of Hollywood until later that year when he played a neo-Nazi assasin in Smokin' Aces. Since then he has been in high demand, with three films already filmed and slated for release in the next year: Carriers, Bottle Shock, and Small Town Saturday Night.
