It's October! In Ohio that means dead leaves and dropping temperatures, and I suppose the exact opposite of that in Australia. It just doesn't seem right for a place to be getting snow in July. Crazy. Anyway, people this week were talking. We have not a single rumor - this is all stuff said by people that may or may not be involved in Star Trek (2008). And most of it is pretty meaty! Are they? Well, time will tell. In the meantime, see what they have to say in this edition of the round-up!
MTV: Nichelle Nichols wants to meet Zoe Saldana The old Uhura wants to pass on some pointers to the new Uhura. In an interview with MTV, Nichols says that she has talked with JJ Abrams and she says that he said that Saldana has the same charisma and presense that Nichols had when the original Star Trek was on the air. Even so, Nichols still wants to meet her, "I have a few things to tell her - where Uhura came from, what her feelings are, what her background is and how she came to be, what qualities that were necessary for her to be chosen as the fourth in command crew on the Starship Enterprise, boldly going where no woman has gone before." MTV Movie Blogs: Quinto likes what he sees The new Spock approves of the choices for the new Chekov and new Uhura. "[Anton Yelchin] is like an eighteen-year-old kid that blows me away when I watch his acting. And Zoë I’ve known [a long time] actually. She did a movie with a friend of mine seven or eight years ago. I got to meet her and know her a little bit back then and am excited to re-meet her and work with her now." Quinto also said that fans are rightfully protective of Star Trek in making sure it is treated with respect. And it might be sucking up to the boss, but Quinto is full of praise for JJ Abrams as well: "He is one of the most creative minds in Hollywood right now. He is really smart and is creating a project with respect for where it came from, but also with a voice of its own." Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
Trek Movie Report: Roberto Orci - giant Trekkie There's not really much about ST(08) in the first part of this interview, but it does at least give us a glimpse into what Roberto Orci is about. Turns out, it is Star Trek. He owns an Enterprise phone and wore a Trek shirt to see The Undiscovered Country. He also owns every phaser and bounces ideas off his Trekkie uncle - including the entire script as a Christmas present. TNG is his favorite, he thought DS9 was interesting, Voyager had promise, and Enterprise was apparently cool. He reads Star Trek books for his own pleasure, and his favorite episodes were 'Balance of Terror' (TOS), 'Yesterday's Enterprise' (TNG), and 'Best of Both Worlds' (TNG). Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
Scotland on Sunday: Paul McGillion has signed a confidentiality agreement While Scotland on Sunday isn't exactly what I would call a hard-hitting entertainment business journal, it's got the scoop regardless. Scottish/Canadian actor Paul McGillion has apparently signed a confidentiality agreement, which he promptly ignored in stating that the role of Scotty in Star Trek will be "a significant part." "Doctor, if a Klingon were to kill me, I'd expect an entire opera on the subject."
