On Tuesday, November 13th, movie theaters around the United States and Canada will offer a special showing of the remastered Star Trek episode 'The Menagerie.' While Star Trek television has appeared in theaters before (the Enterprise season 4 premiere 'Storm Front' was screened by Paramount in a Hollywood movie theater), it has never done so on this scale: 300 theaters across the US and Canada.
'The Menagerie' will be shown in its full HD format with surround sound as part of the promotion for the upcoming DVD/HD DVD season 1 Star Trek set, which will be released a week later on November 20th.
'The Menagerie' is a two-part episode that salvaged footage from the original Star Trek pilot featuring Captain Christopher Pike (Jefferey Hunter). The pilot was rejected by NBC and the Spock character was the only one to survive to the second pilot and the rest of the series. The episode revolves around Spock risking his career to hijack the Enterprise to carry Captain Pike to the forbidden planet of Talos IV. It was the 11th Star Trek episode to air.
