It's time for another weekly summation of the news swirling about on Star Trek. In addition to the casting of Zoe Saldana as the iconic Uhura, we have some words from the original Uhura - Nichelle Nichols, a fight for the premiere location for ST(08), and some Vulcan ears. There's your summation, details after a word from our commercial sponsors. On with the round-up!
TrekUnited: Zoe Saldana is Uhura We first heard this rumor just over a month ago, and we got confirmation from both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter - Saldana will be playing Uhura in Star Trek. She's joining the already confirmed Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, and Anton Yelchin. Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
Cinema Blend: Character advise for her successor, from Nichols In an interview with Cinema Blend, Nichelle Nichols had some advise for whomever was to play Uhura in ST(08) (we now know her words are to be directed at Zoe Saldana). "She’s [Uhura's] down to earth, sings, is funny but she’s no nonsense... Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combination is what makes the universe beautiful. Then we go forth in peaceful exploration, where no man or woman has gone before. Take that to heart and then be yourself." Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
Trek Movie Report: Vulcan (Canada) wants to premiere Star Trek Really. The little town of Vulcan, Alberta, Canada that has made a name for itself from its name, is working with the Alberta Film Commission to work with Paramount to bring the premiere of Star Trek to Vulcan. The town currently recieves about 12,000 tourists per year, most drawn to the Vulcan Tourism & Trek Station. Discuss: TrekUnited Forum
TV Guide: Quinto gets his head cast, wears a gray suit to the Emmy's In a red carpet interview at this year's Academy Award ceremony, Zachary Quinto was asked about Star Trek. It seems that in addition to getting just his ears cast for the iconic pointed Vulcan ears, his entire head was cast, leaving him with just two straws sticking out of his nose. Fun times.
