Star Trek Remastered TOS-R Season 3 DVD: November 14

18 August 2008 - Just in time for the holiday shopping season, the third season of Star Trek Remastered will be hitting the shelves on November 14th, 2008. Like season two, this for now is a DVD-only release, with no Blu-ray companion set announced. The set will feature the same style packaging as the previous two seasons, just with a red color scheme (following that of the TOS crew uniforms - yellow, blue, and red). Just like the prior seasons, the DVD set will feature the full-length remastered episodes - broadcast episodes have been cut by several minutes for modern advertising requirements - and likely a myriad of special features.

CBSCBS launches online HD player, TOS-R in the mix

23 July 2008 - While CBS has historically been resistant to putting content online without getting a direct payback (as is the case with iTunes), their online media viewer has enjoyed some success through its integrated advertisements. With the proliferation of broadband internet access, viewers have been begging for more. Well, CBS has stepped up to the plate, offering up a new website with streaming high definition television. And as a bonus to Star Trek fans, the new CBS HD Gallery also includes high definition episodes of Star Trek Remastered.

Star Trek RemasteredStar Trek Remastered work done

28 April 2008 - Twenty one months later, the work on Star Trek Remastered is now complte. Dave Rossi, Mike and Denise Okuda, and all the rest of the CBS digital team started work in early 2006 on the remastering of Star Trek as a way to mark the 40th anniversary of the original. They have created nearly 2,200 new effects shots and brought TOS into the world of high definition.

Star Trek RemasteredTOS-R Season 2 DVD confirmed, detailed

16 April 2008 - We first heard that the second season of Star Trek Remastered would be coming out on DVD only (no HD), now we have a date, details of the extras, and a shot of a very familiar looking box. The set will be 26 episodes on 8 discs, priced at $99.99, and released on August 5th, 2008. The Season 2 box set will also include more of Billy Blackburn's behind-the-scenes home movies, 9 special featurettes, and due to the inclusion of "The Trouble With Tribbles," the other two Star Trek tribble episodes, The Animated Series' "More Tribbles, More Trouble" and Deep Space Nine's "Trials and Tribble-ations."

The Doomsday MachineTOS-R Season 2 on track for DVD-only release

22 March 2008 - Star Trek Remastered was dealt a blow when HD DVD collapsed in the face of overwhelming Blu-ray sales. The hybrid HD DVD/DVD Season 2 set was on track for release when Paramount cancelled all future HD DVD releases. With HD DVD out of the picture, we were left ot wonder when we would see a release of TOS-R S2, and if it would be in HD. Here's the answer: no HD, at least for now, and a date of August 5th.

HD DVDeadToshiba throws in the HD DVD towel, future of HD Star Trek unknown

20 February 2008 - HD DVD suffered too many losses in the past few weeks. The Toshiba-backed HD disc format was dropped by Netflix and Wal-Mart and pushed to the back of the store at Best Buy. Combined with slumping sales after the loss of Warner Bros' support, HD DVD has been on its knees for some time now. Toshiba finally announced that it is shutting down its HD DVD production lines, marking the end of the HD format war that has waged for the past few years.

No exact date has been given for the season two release, but as soon as we know we'll let you know.

A Taste of Armageddon RemasteredTeeter on the brink of annihilation: A Taste of Armageddon Remastered preview

11 December 2007 - As usual, it's a simple mission: pick up the Ambassador from a peaceful little planet. As usual, that planet isn't so peaceful. They've been at war for 500 years, and Captain Kirk and the Starship Enterprise just stepped into the middle of it. Nothing quite like being told by a computer that you've been selected for termination. Watch the preview for the remastered 'A Taste of Armageddon' (Quicktime required) after the break.

The Return of Archons RemasteredKnow the peace of Landru: The Return of the Archons remastered

04 December 2007 - The Starship Enterprise is sent to investigate the dissapearance of the U.S.S. Archons more than 100 years ago. They come to the planet Beta III, where the vessel vanished, and find a quaint society bellow, completely lacking in any creative though (which as you can imagine is quite troubling for a crew that has thought their way out of many a tight spot). And they are all controlled by a guy named Landru, who knows all and only wants to bring you all peace. Yeah, right. Check out the preview (Quicktime required) after the break.

The Alternative FactorThe 'Alternative Factor' Remastered

'Metamorphosis' RemasteredDiscover "The Metamorphosis" remastered

31 October 2007 - Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip, That started from the Enterprise, aboard this tiny ship. The Captain was a mighty Iowan, James Kirk brave and sure. Fourpassengers set off that day for a three hour tour. A three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough, the Galileo was ensnared. The anomaly put them all down on a big empty space rock. A big empty space rock. And on this rock they found a man that history thought lost.

With Vulcan Spock, the Captain too, our friend Doctor McCoy, the Commissioner that's fallen ill, and Zefram Cohrane, here on this space rock.

The M-113 Salt SuckerPreview for remastered "The Man Trap"

24 September 2007 - The salt sucker of M-113 cometh. It's another episode that isn't loaded with special effects, but the entire original Star Trek series is getting the digital treatment, and that includes "The Man Trap." The Enterprise is paying a visit to the world of M-113, a planet where the intelligent life that once lived was long ago lost, leaving behind cities of ruins. A pair of Federation scientists, Dr. Robert Crater and his wife Nancy are the only people on the planet, studying the ruins. And they want salt.

Kodos the ExecutionerPreview for remastered "The Conscience of the King" posted

18 September 2007 - It is what Star Trek producers describe as a 'bubble show,' i.e. one where the story takes place almost exclusively on the ship. And they do it because it doesn't cost much to do (and because they blew their budget on the previous espisodes). That's what "The Conscience of the King" is. Don't get me wrong, here, bubble shows are very often among the best in Star Trek because they force the writers to focus on character development, take Enterprise's acclaimed "Shuttlepod One" for example. Regardless of the almost complete lack of effects in "The Conscience of the King," the Star Trek remastered team has done it anyway, and this episode serves as an example of the superior film scanning used for the remastering. Kodos the Executioner will strike.

The Galileo SevenFirst images from remastered "The Galileo Seven"

11 September 2007 - Airing starting this weekend is the second season of Star Trek Remastered, and leading the way is the classic "The Galileo Seven." Spock's Brain"Spock's Brain" remastered images

07 June 2007 - That's right, Spock's Brain. The campiested of campy episodes has gotten the remastered treatment. There's hardly been any contention about the fact that this one is one of the worst of Star Trek, but that hasn't stopped Mike and Denise Okuda and David Rossi from tackling Spock's Brain head-on.

Star Trek RemasteredTOS Gets The Digital Treatment
