The combination DVD and HD DVD Season One Star Trek Remastered we first showed you last month has cropped up on Amazon.com for pre-order - at a discounted price nonetheless. They are listing the retail price as being $198.99 (down from the $217.99 previously announced), and selling for $138.95. For comparison, the unremastered Season One DVD set sells for $67.49 on Amazon, and the Season One HD DVD set for NBC's Heroes sells for $69.95.
Even so, the steep discounts are a welcome respite for Star Trek fans and collectors (37% from the original list price), whom have grown used to and weary off the often overpriced Star Trek DVD sets. While the TOS Remastered HD DVD set does come with an extensive set of extras, including hours of never-before-seen behind the scenes footage from Star Trek, it's price still provoked unhappy reactions from the customers CBS wishes to capture.
