New Voyages' "World and Time Enough" released
Written by Derek Kessler on Thursday, 23 August 2007
New VoyagesThe New Voyages crew today released their latest endeavour, titled "World and Time Enough," starring none other than Star Trek veteran actor George Takei as Hikaru Sulu. Early reviews of this episode have been overwhelmingly postive, placing it at the pinnacle of Star Trek fan films, rivallng the quality of the professionally-produced Star Trek series and movies. Aided by actors such as Takei and Grace Lee Whitney, as well as the CGI wizards at the DAVE School, "World and Time Enough" has raised the bar considerably for fan films.

While we won't get into details here, the story revolves around a transporter accident that has aged Sulu by 30 years and given him a daughter. That's all I'll tell you right now, if you want to know the rest, you'll have to watch the episode yourself.

The story is an adaptation of a script written for Star Trek Phase II (which eventually became The Motion Picture), in which a transporter accident would have done the same thing to Sulu, sans the daughter bit. Regardless, Writer/Dirctor Marc Scott Zicree has done a phenomenal job revising and directing this story for New Voyages, and the selection of Christina Moses to play Sulu's daughter has proven to be a wise choice - her acting skills and depth of emotion bring a sense of realism and heart to a character that could have very easily been simply a plot device. Just as with Walter Koenig in the previous episode "To Serve All My Days," Takei gets the chance to really expand on the Sulu character, bringing him a depth and complexity that was missing throughout the original Star Trek and the movies.

Enough of my talking about how good it is, just go watch it already!
