Star Trek: Aurora is a new animated Trek fan film written, directed and animated by Tim Vining that has sprung out of nowhere! The background and ship graphics, the animation of the figures - this is great virtual cinematography! The storyline is novel and engaging (sort of Firefly Trek!), which is character driven and atmospheric - real drama without being maudlin.
This is awesome! It could be one of the surprise hits of the year, although as the creator points out...
"Star Trek: Aurora is a work in progress. New portions of the story will come out as they are completed, so make sure to check back on occasion to see if I've gotten more done (though, patience is required: I'm doing this pretty much on my own!)"
Set in 2270, between the end of the original Series and the start of the first movie, It shows the perils of trading in the Star Trek universe ...
"The inspiration for following the exploits of interstellar merchanters rather than Starfleet characters (who will appear in later portions of this work) comes from the many civilians that Kirk's Enterprise encountered in the original series ..."
