Work on TOS Remastered continues
Written by Derek Kessler on Tuesday, 29 May 2007
The crackpot team of visual effects artists working on TOS Remastered is still pumping out the episodes. They’ve done over 25 thus far, and are steadily improving technique and artistry with each that goes by. Airing soon will be Errand of Mercy, Charlie X, Return to Tomorrow, and Squire of Gothos.

Despite the suggestions of Doomsday Machine writer Norman Spinrad, the Remastered team is sticking to their original goal of enhancing the original episodes instead of revising the episodes. Said producer David Rossi, "While it's sometimes tempting to want to take drastic departures, our reason for doing this is to honor the work that was originally done. It's not our job or intent to reimagine the show, but rather to take what already exists and using today's effects techniques, and bring the show into the here and now. I've received many emails and calls from friends with children who are suddenly turning onto the show because they're not taken out of the action by the 1960s-level effects."

Of course, the subject of a potential TNG Remastered had to be broached. Rossi said that after TOS Remastered is finished, if they had the time and resources it would certainly be possible, though the work load would be tremendous compared to the relatively light effects used throughout TOS. "That being said, Mike, Denise, and I would of course love to see that happen. If CBS were interested in exploring that idea, we would be ready to go."
