 Much like the redesigned Star Trek: The Next Generation DVD sets released last year, Paramount Home Entertainment is releasing new slim-line Star Trek: Deep Space Nine box sets in Region 2 territories. These new editions come with all the episodes and extra features intact from the older box sets, whilst boasting cheaper retail prices (£34.99 in the UK, €49,99 elsewhere). While all seven seasons are set to be released on the April 30th in the United Kingdom, other countries (Australia, France and Germany) have already seen the first few seasons of these new editions on store shelves.
In many regions the releases of the different seasons is being staggered over several weeks, so fans interested in picking up their own edition of the more compact and less expensive Deep Space Nine should check for the release dates in their individual countries of residence. DVD Regions:
1 - Bermuda, Canada, United States, and U.S. territories
2 - The Middle East, Western and Central Europe, Egypt, French overseas territories, Greenland, Japan, Lesotho, South Africa, and Swaziland
3 - Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and Taiwan
4 - Australia, New Zealand, Central America, the Caribbean, Oceania, and South America
5 - Africa, FormerUSSR, the Indian subcontinent, Mongolia, and North Korea
6 - Mainland China 
There was no word on if or when these slimline DVDs will ever be available outside Region 2. Running for seven seasons, Deep Space Nine is widely considered to be the darkest of all the Star Trek series. It's long arcs of the Dominion War and the continuing story of Captain Benjamin Sisko and the Prophets have made Deep Space Nine the favorite of many fans. Initially criticized for breaking the Star Trek mold by basing the series on a space station, it later went on to tell stories of depth and intrigue that places Deep Space Nine among the very best of Star Trek.
