As I’m sure most of you are well aware, social networking has taken off in recent years, with sites like MySpace and Facebook having numbers in the hundreds of millions of users. These sites provide unique opportunities for expanding and promoting sites like TrekUnited, as well as, well, social networking. Our next rollout in TU Social is the official TrekUnited Facebook page, where you can proclaim yourself a fan of the site that fandom built.
Like our recently unveiled Twitter page, TU on Facebook will allow you to check up on TrekUnited’s news without having to visit the site (though we would love it if you’d keep coming back anyway). But unlike Twitter, Facebook will allow you to connect with other fans of TrekUnited (and by extension, Star Trek) that you may not have otherwise run into on the zoo that is the 100,000,000-strong membership of Facebook.
For you non-Facebook members out there, there’s more to the site than just TrekUnited. Registration [free] with Facebook will allow you to connect and mingle with the millions of other members. Chances are, there are more than a few people you know on Facebook, you might even be able to catch up with old friends from school you haven’t spoken with in years. The Facebook platform is also extendable, allowing you to customize your profile with any number of mini-applications.
So go ahead, become a fan (you know you are).
