Clifton Collins on ST09’s Romulan connection
Written by Derek Kessler on Thursday, 21 August 2008
Clifton Collins, JrBeing that the actor is playing a Romulan, or at least so we assume, there’s quite the connection. Clifton Collins, Jr., has been case as Ayel, Nero’s Romulan cohort in Star Trek (2009), and as part of the role, he had to learn to speak Romulan. As in the language. “The had a linguist come in and invent Romulan!” Collins said, in an interview with E! Online.

Collins also revealed that the look of his and Eric Bana’s Romulan characters seem to have been inspired somewhat by the Disney blockbuster trilogy Pirates of the Caribbean. He said, “We’re space pirates. Think of Johnny Depp as a Romulan.”

When asked about possible cameos in Star Trek, Collins said, “There are, but I better not say. There are certain things that as kids growing up, whether it’s Star Trek or other shows at the time, all you got to do is really just hear their voice and your heart warms.” E! pressed him to see if that meant we’d see more Star Trek cameos than just Leonard Nimoy, Collins just smiled and said, “Maybe.” Curse you and your NDA-mandated ambiguity!
