At Comic Con last month, Mattel was showing off the latest prototypes for their recently-netted Star Trek toy deal. In addition to the 20Q handheld game, Mattel is prepping a series of Tyco /RC flyer toys, including those based on the design of the Enterprise and other Trek ships.
As described by TrekMovie.com, Mattel is working on four different versions of the flying Enterprise, all destined for a 2009 release. The cheapest - in both Enterprise and Klingon Bird of Prey designs, will cost $20 and simply flies around in a circle, for $40 you get the same with an radio controller. A $70 deluxe version is both larger and comes with a touch-screen controller shaped like a TOS communicator, and a charging base shaped like a tricorder. Lastly, there’s a massive $200 4-foot version that uses the same base and controller.

While both TOS and movie refit designs were showcased at Comic-Con, these were just prototypes. John Ludwig, Mattel Tyco Product Manager, said that due to the aerodynamic lift requirements of the R/C flyers, the final production designs would likely be based on the move refit Enterprise (with the larger swept-back nacelle pylons). Mattel also will be making a flyer based on the new movie Enterprise, but that will not be released until much closer to the premiere. Depending on consumer response, Mattel also has plans to expand the line into the rest of the Star Trek universe, including flyers based on the Enterprise-D and Voyager.
