What’s up with Nero’s ear? [spoilers] |

In the recently released posters for Star Trek (2009), we caught our first glimpse of Eric Bana as the character Nero, which we had all assumed up to that point was a Romulan (being that Romulans were to be the villains of this film). Then we took a look at the picture of Bana, and we didn’t see any pointy ear. What’s up with that?
Speaking with UGO about his upcoming film Eagle Eye, writer Alex Kurtzman was asked about Nero’s ear, to which he replied, “Nero isn’t necessarily a Romulan... It’s all part of the plot.”
[commentary] WHAT?
Granted, the Romulans have been lead by non-Romulans before (Shinzon was human, and Sela was half-human), but upon closer examination, it looks more like Nero’s ear was cut/gnawed off. Look at it, does that look like a normal human ear to you? Didn’t think so. Plus, check out the cut on his cheek, right in line with his ear (assuming it was lopped off). He does also look to have very swept Romulan eyebrows, but they’re lost in the shadow of his brow, and nowhere near as bushly as Quinto’s.
My verdict: Nero’s a Romulan, just as we’ve thought all along. [/commentary]
