(From June 26, 2008) Unlike years past, Paramount will not be bringing anybody to Comic-Con this year. The annual gathering of self-professed geeks, nerds, and the like easily draws more than 100,000 attendees in the space of four days. The largest draws are often the panels put on by upcoming films, in fact, Comic-Con 2006 was where the world saw the first ST09 teaser poster, and was introduced to the Spocks (Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy).
Apparently, Paramount has decided that because all of their “geek-friendly” films are a year or more off, that it would not be prudent to drag the casts or crews down to San Diego. This, unfortunately, means that we won’t have any Star Trek (2009) at Comic-Con either. Director/Producer JJ Abrams has expressed his regret at the suits’ decision, saying that he wanted to be able to show clips from the film, but with over 1000 special visual effects to put in, it’s just not ready for public viewing.
