And William Shatner might not make the guest cut. George Takei and his partner of 21 years Brad Altman were engaged to wed a few weeks ago following a court ruling that overturned a gay marriage ban in California. The couple have chosen to tie the knot on September 14th at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, with Walter Koenig serving as best man and Nichelle Nichols as matron of honor.
Leonard Nimoy and his wife Susan were confirmed to be on the guest list, but Takei commented that with 3500 potential guests between himself and Altman, and only 200 seats for the formal affair, William Shatner might not make the cut. While Shatner has often remarked that he doesn’t understand why Takei ‘hates him,’ Takei for his part has never explicitly expressed any dislike for the actor who played his Captain through three years of Star Trek on television and five movies.
The wedding itself will be a conglomerate of multiple cultures meant to reflect the eclectic tastes and backgrounds of Takei and Altman. As such, there will be Scottish bagpipes, a dinner of a Japanese-Mexican fusion, and the whole wedding will be officiated by a Mexican-American Buddhist minister.
