So far we’ve seen fan collectives of Star Trek episodes featuring Klingons, Borg, Q, captains, time travel, and the man: Jean-Luc Picard. Buckle your captain’s chairs, because there’s a new one on the way: Alternate Realities. The Paramount-provided description says the 5-disc DVD set “is a collection featuring bizarre and strange episodes... see your favorite characters behaving contrary to type, in familiar but odd circumstances.” Unlike the previous fan collectives, however, there’s no fan to this collective – as you may recall Paramount and StarTrek.com ran actual polls for the first fan collective sets.
An episode list for Alternate Realities hasn’t been released yet, but the 5-disc set will include 20 episodes and run 15:18 hours, along with exclusive new special features. Each episode will be presented in its original broadcast format (full screen for everything but episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise), with audio provided in English 5.1 surround sound, Spanish and Portuguese in stereo, and subtitles for all three languages.
If there’s one thing that we can assume Alternate Realities means is that we’ll see plenty of Mirror Universe episodes peppered in. There are 42 episodes across all six Star Trek series that qualify as ‘alternate reality,’ though it seems very unlikely that we’ll see ‘Yesteryear’ from The Animated Series in this set. Apart from that one episode, there are plenty to choose from. So the question is, which 20 episodes would you choose for the Star Trek: Alternate Realities Fan Collective?
Star Trek: The Original Series
‘The City on the Edge of Forever’ ‘Mirror, Mirror’
| Star Trek: The Animated Series
‘Yesteryear’
| Star Trek: The Next Generation
‘Time Squared’ ‘Yesterday's Enterprise’ ‘Tapestry’ ‘Parallels’ ‘All Good Things...’
| Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
‘Crossover’ ‘Past Tense, Part I’ ‘Past Tense, Part II’ ‘Visionary’ ‘Through the Looking Glass’ ‘The Visitor’ ‘Shattered Mirror’ ‘Trials and Tribble-ations’ ‘Children of Time’ ‘Resurrection’ ‘The Emperor's New Cloak’
| Star Trek: Voyager
‘Time and Again’ ‘Non Sequitur’ ‘Before and After’ ‘Future's End’ ‘Future's End, Part II’ ‘Year of Hell’ ‘Year of Hell, Part II’ ‘Timeless’ ‘Relativity’ ‘Fury’ ‘Shattered’ ‘Endgame’
| Star Trek: Enterprise
‘Shockwave’ ‘Shockwave, Part II’ ‘Twilight’ ‘E²’ ‘Storm Front’ ‘Storm Front, Part II’ ‘In a Mirror, Darkly’ ‘In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II’

The Star Trek: Alternate Realities Fan Collective DVD set will be released on September 16, 2008. Pricing has not yet been announced, but is expected to be in line with previous fan collective releases ($38.99).
