We’ve almost all seen the LCARS-based skins that have been pumped out for personal computers, and frankly, they have a tendency to disappoint, either through functionality or quality. That said, LCARS was designed for Star Trek: The Next Generation as a touch screen interface, not to be used with a keyboard and mouse, so it’s no surprise that attempts to bludgeon LCARS onto a Windows PC haven’t resulted in faithful results. That’s no longer the case, with one man turning his home automation system into a fully-usable LCARS-based touch screen interface.
Unfortunately, video poster ‘xa9000’ didn’t give us much more information about how he got it to work, numerous home automation systems are commercially available. The LCARS interface, however, is a custom job. And a pretty darn good one at that.
