Diamond Select coming out with two, maybe three, TOS tricorders
Written by Mark Williams on Wednesday, 21 May 2008
TOS TricorderWhen Diamond Select Toys originally solicited the TOS Tricorder, it was erroneously called it the Medical Tricorder; we have come to learn that it is actually the Science Tricorder. Basically everything is the same, except that the medical variant (the only difference is that the scanner accessory will removable) and it will be an Entertainment Earth exclusive. There is also an additional as-of-yet third variant that has yet to be announced, pending being picked-up by a retailer.

This DST tricorder is based on the kit that HMS Studios made for the Deep Space Nine episode ‘Trials and Tribble-ations.’ The unannounced 3rd version is a Geological Tricorder, which was only seen in one episode of TOS: ‘That Which Survives.’

Prices will vary by retailer, but should be set around $29.99 for the Science Tricorder and $39.99 for the Medical Tricorder. Entertainment Earth will be the primary distributor for the Medical Tricorder. They have opted not to carry the Science Tricorder, since the medical version is identical, plus the removable hand scanner. Those interested in grabbing a Science-only Tricorder can get one from New Force Comics and other retailers. Both versions will be available in October.
