Our friends over at Roddenberry.com will be holding a live chat with a stalwart of Star Trek guest stardom: Robert O'Reilly, the man behind the bulging eyes and wrinkled forehead of one Klingon Chancellor Gowron. The chat will kick off at 7:30 PM EST on Sunday, February 24th, and will last until the last drop of blood wine has been drank. Or something like that. |

If there was ever any one woman associated with all of Star Trek, it would have to be Gene Roddenberry's widow, Majel Barrett-Roddenberry. She is the only person to have had a part in all six television series, including roles as Number One in the Star Trek pilot, Christine Chapel in the rest of the series and The Animated Series, Lwaxana Troi in The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, and as the computer voice in every Star Trek series, though a bit more soothing once we reached the 24th century. Majel hits the milestone age of 75 today, so we at TrekUnited would like to extend our warmest birthday wishes to her. Happy Birthday! |

Our guest for this week’s Slice of SciFi Show #149 is producer Roger Lay Jr. (Everybody Loves Raymond, A Piece of Wood) of Urban Archipelago Films. Lay is producing and has adapted the screenplay of the Ray Bradbury short story Chrysalis, which we spoke about on our show two weeks ago, for the big screen. From the news desk comes word that Michael Bay has the script pretty much outlined for the next Transformers film, Danish film star Mads Mikkelsen moves from the Casino Royale gambling tables to next be seen in a German supernatural thriller, and Indian superstar Shah Rukh Khan is setting out to produce that nation’s most expensive movie ever made — and it’s an animated film. |

Paramount Home Entertainment officially went to the Blu-ray side of life on Thursday, following the demise of the HD DVD high defnition disc format. Paramount and Universal were the only studios remaining supporting the format, and after Toshiba pulled the plug on Tuesday, speculation about if the two studio would switch turned to when. Though Paramount still has a few HD DVD movies in the pipeline (they were already being pressed), all future HD releases will come out on BD. If or when we'll see Star Trek on Blu-ray is an unknown, but when we know, we'll let you know. |

Well, it's official. After dissapointing attendance in the past few years, the perennial fan-run convention - Starbase Indy - will not see 2008. Despite having David Reddick and Star Wars' Ray Park (Darth Maul) on hand and focusing on getting the fans involved in their own entertainment, SBI07 failed to live up to expectations and led to the decision to not continue to convention. Amongst the saddness over the passing of SBI - which has in the past served as the official meet of TrekUnited - there is a light at the end of the tunnel: Vulkon Entertainment will be holding its own convention in the place of SBI. |

The Doctor is going to Atlantis. Robert Picardo, who played The Doctor for seven years on Star Trek: Voyager, has secured himself a permanent spot on the cast of the fifth season of Stargate: Atlantis. Picardo's character, Richard Woolsey, will be taking command of the Atlantis Expedition following the departure of Samantha Carter (played by Amanda Tapping). Picardo has appeared on Atlantis five times in the previous four seasons. |

Everybody's favorite positronic android today turned 59 years old. Brent Spiner, who played Data (and Lore and Noonien Soong and the entire Old West and B-4 and Arik Soong) has been involved with Star Trek for over twenty years now, appearing in all but one of The Next Generation's 178 episodes, all four TNG movies, and in a trilogy of episodes in Star Trek: Enterprise. His most recent film role was in the 2006 comedy Material Girls; Spiner is currently working on the spoof film Superhero, due out in March of this year. |
