With California’s recent ruling allowing gay marriages in the state, celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres and George Takei for the first time found themselves planning a wedding. Takei, who played Hikaru Sulu on the original Star Trek series and for several of the movies, finally married Brad Altman, his partner of 21 years. “It’s high time we made it legitimate,” Takei said. |

And it’s priceline.com he has to thank. When the fledgling discount airline ticket portal first netted William Shatner as their commercial spokesman ‘The Negotiator,’ some in the ad business were skeptical of the decision. Ten years later, priceline.com’s name recognition is through the roof, after Shatner promised in his first commercial for them that Priceline was going to be “Big. Really big.” |

And William Shatner might not make the guest cut. George Takei and his partner of 21 years Brad Altman were engaged to wed a few weeks ago following a court ruling that overturned a gay marriage ban in California. The couple have chosen to tie the knot on September 14th at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, with Walter Koenig serving as best man and Nichelle Nichols as matron of honor. |

Our thoughts and prayers again go out to the family of another Star Trek legend, Robert Justman. The producer of Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation succumbed to Parkinson’s disease at the age of 81. Justman was brought on board for the original Star Trek pilot, ‘The Cage,’ back in 1964, as an associate produced under Gene Roddenberry. |

Less than a week after having lost prolific Star Trek: The Original Series director Joseph Pevney, we’ve now received the news that the composer of the iconic Star Trek theme, Alexander Courage, has also passed away. Courage, who was 88 years old, had been in declining health for the past few years, and died on May 15th at an assisted living facility in Pacific Palisades, California. |

With the Supreme Court having overturned California’s ban of gay marriages and civil unions, George Takei and his partner Brad Altman are now officially engaged to be married. Said Takei of the development: “Our California dream is reality. Brad Altman and I can now marry. We are overjoyed! At long last, the barrier to full marriage rights for same-sex couples has been torn down. We are equal with all citizens of our state!” |

We’ve almost all seen the LCARS-based skins that have been pumped out for personal computers, and frankly, they have a tendency to disappoint, either through functionality or quality. That said, LCARS was designed for Star Trek: The Next Generation as a touch screen interface, not to be used with a keyboard and mouse, so it’s no surprise that attempts to bludgeon LCARS onto a Windows PC haven’t resulted in faithful results. That’s no longer the case, with one man turning his home automation system into a fully-usable LCARS-based touch screen interface. |

It was two months ago that Paramount officially moved over to the Blu-ray Disc camp after HD DVD collapsed, and now the studio has finally announced its first Blu-ray titles. Unfortunately, Star Trek is not among them. The first five BD titles from Paramount are due out between May 20 and June 3 and include Face/Off, Next, Bee Movie (which was scheduled for HD DVD release when the axe fell), Cloverfield, and There Will Be Blood. |
