New Fan Collective: Alternate Realities
Written by Derek Kessler on Saturday, 31 May 2008
Mirror Universe SpockSo far we’ve seen fan collectives of Star Trek episodes featuring Klingons, Borg, Q, captains, time travel, and the man: Jean-Luc Picard. Buckle your captain’s chairs, because there’s a new one on the way: Alternate Realities. The Paramount-provided description says the 5-disc DVD set “is a collection featuring bizarre and strange episodes... see your favorite characters behaving contrary to type, in familiar but odd circumstances.” Unlike the previous fan collectives, however, there’s no fan to this collective – as you may recall Paramount and StarTrek.com ran actual polls for the first fan collective sets.

Belated pictures from the Starfleet Academy shoot
Written by Derek Kessler on Saturday, 31 May 2008
Star Trek (2009)Sure, Cal State Northridge was attacked by the Star Trek (2009) film crew, oh, two months ago, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still some pictures of the filming lying around on various camera memory cards in the Northridge area. Such a set of five new images surfaced earlier this week, with more pictures of the Aptera hybrid, extras in uniform, Starfleet insignia, a blue screen, and a guy in some serious alien make-up.

Written by Derek Kessler on Wednesday, 28 May 2008
Zachary Quinto“It was done with real heart and real respect and a real effort to honor the origins of this franchise, while at the same time sort of reimagining those origins,” Zachary Quinto said of the remaking of Star Trek. He said that he and the rest of the cast and crew are appreciative of the support they’ve received from the fans of Star Trek, admitting that even so it was most important for them to make a good movie.

Star Trek (2009) - the ships [SPOILERS]
Written by Derek Kessler on Wednesday, 28 May 2008
U.S.S. EnterpriseWhile Star Trek movies have always been about the Enterprise and her crew, a lot of times we get to see other ships in action, be they Starfleet or not. In the past we’ve dealt heavily with the U.S.S. Reliant (The Wrath of Khan), a Klingon bird-of-prey (The Search For Spock and The Voyage Home), the U.S.S. Excelsior (The Undiscovered Country), the Son’a Flagship (Insurrection), and the Scimitar (Nemesis), all of course in addition to the Enterprises (refit original, A, B, D, and E). Today we’re getting a better look at what we’re going to see in a year’s time in Star Trek (2009). Beware, there be spoilers after the break.

Shatner over ST09 exclusion, says Abrams can make Trek live
Written by Derek Kessler on Wednesday, 28 May 2008
William ShatnerWhile the tabloid and even the mainstream press has been swarming over the so-called ‘exclusion’ of William Shatner from Star Trek (2009) – remember, Kirk died in Generations – The Shat himself is over his initial disappointment, “I’m solidly behind being disappointed that I’m not in it.”

Star Trek: The Tour back on course, beaming out of Long Beach
Written by Derek Kessler on Saturday, 24 May 2008
Star Trek: The Tour beaming out of Long BeachNobody really talked about it, possibly out of embarrassment, but Star Trek: The Tour, has been closed in Long Beach, California, for a few months now and hasn’t moved on to its next city, San Francisco. As it would turn out, the owners of the Queen Mary site where The Tour was set up decided that they were owed an additional $200,000 by SEE Touring Productions, and that’s two hundred thousand dollars they either didn’t have or didn’t want to pay. The Tour has now traded hands and will be moving on.

Zoe Saldana talks Trek, just not the movie
Written by Derek Kessler on Saturday, 24 May 2008
Zoe SaldanaSure, she’s playing Uhura in Star Trek (2009), but that doesn’t mean she’s really allowed to talk about it. But she can still talk about everything else, including all of the other 40 years of Star Trek, and it turns out, that like half the cast, she wasn’t really into before she got the role. Her favorite episodes: The Savage Curtain and Plato’s Stepchildren.

Star Trek (2009) - the villains [SPOILERS]
Written by Derek Kessler on Wednesday, 21 May 2008
Eric Bana - baldTied to JJ Abrams insistence on secrecy with the production of Star Trek (2009), there's been very little data about what's actually going to happen, and who will be doing what to whom. Well, the time has come to brace yourself for some clarification. Hint to the left, spoilers after the break.

Diamond Select coming out with two, maybe three, TOS tricorders
Written by Mark Williams on Wednesday, 21 May 2008
TOS TricorderWhen Diamond Select Toys originally solicited the TOS Tricorder, it was erroneously called it the Medical Tricorder; we have come to learn that it is actually the Science Tricorder. Basically everything is the same, except that the medical variant (the only difference is that the scanner accessory will removable) and it will be an Entertainment Earth exclusive. There is also an additional as-of-yet third variant that has yet to be announced, pending being picked-up by a retailer.

How would you change Star Trek (TOS)?
Written by Derek Kessler on Sunday, 11 May 2008
Star Trek (TOS)I’d like to take a moment to introduce you to a new (hopefully) running feature here on TrekUnited, the “How would you change...” series. Every now and then we’ll pose to you a segment of Star Trek, be it a series or a movie or whatnot, and ask what you, in retrospect, could have been done better. This time we’ll be looking at just the original three series run from 1966 to ’69, so here we go: how would you change Star Trek (TOS)?
