Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow.
Do not walk beside me for the path is narrow. In fact, just bugger off and leave me alone.

Kirk: I take it the odds are against us and the situation is grim.
Picard: You could say that.
Kirk: You know, if Spock were here, he'd say that I was an irrational, illogical human being by taking on a mission like that. Sounds like fun!

That's probably true; a cat is likely to fare much better on a Starship like the NX-01. On a starship like the Enterprise-D, though, which is like one giant living-room with hotel-style carpeting, I'd say dogs and cats would be equally suited.
And Porthos is very cute indeed.

May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

I agree Porthos should have his own section.
I think he's the best beagle since Snoopy! That's why he's on my sig!
I know there are those of you who would argue, "sure, if we give Porthos a section next Spot will want one and so would Aycheya." I say "why not?" Animal actors deserve a place for their fans as well, (even if some of them are animated

I think he should get an own section, since he is no guest actor, but member of the "senior staff" ;P

My parent once promised me the same, that as soon as we got a garden I would get a dog. Did I get one? Nooo...! *starts to mutter and wince about the outrage of it all and the traumatic effect it has had on my life*On a serious note, don't think that a garden will be enough. A dog should get out at minimum 3 times a day, which I personal find too low. Imagine you getting only 3 times a day a chance to go to the bathroom.. Also, humans know things to do in a home (read, watch tv, talk, play games, etc.), but dogs have much less to do indoors. So the more time outside in a natural environment (places where they can snoop around, smell all sorts of scents, play), like a park, the more joy they have. And don't forget that when you walk your dog you have to have time to play and have fun (not just everytime 30 minutes, or something like that). And you have to let your dog out early in the morning and late in the evening (probably when it is already dark, depending on where you live) and inbetween. Others will have to want the dog to, because they will have to be able and willing to take care of her/him as well, when you are nor around. And don't forget that when you leave home, who will take care of the dog?
With other words, people who want dogs, think carefully! You have them for many years and it is a responsibility and can't chuck them away when it pleases you and the exciting new feeling of having a dog has gone
I kinda wondered sometimes where Porthos would go to the 'bathroom'. On Enterprise I doubt that they have a suitable dog place.. Does Archer let Porthos do his things in his quarters?
Ah, Porthos get's me all concerned about his fictious ST welfare
