Well for personal reasons I'd like to see a cancer-fighter, but anything that helps people would be good.

I have finally started moving my machines over to BOINC from UD Grid.

Let's see how far we can go!

ALL HAIL Lord Emperor !!!

Seriously, this is wonderful news for us! Lord Emperor easily led our Grid.org team in total points for most of its existence thanks to his cluster (farm) of servers and PCs. I hope he'll tell us how many he has crunching for him!

I'd also like to welcome smargolis to our Climate Prediction team!

I have officially joined our Einstein@Home team for the majority of my humble PC's activity. I have finally found a project with plenty of work that runs well on my system. In between Einstein's long WUs I still crunch a few TANPAKU WUs and anything else I can find from my other projects (which isn't much).

Finally, I'd like to show off the new official BOINC logo:

BOINCstats has already adopted the new graphics for its purposes. See their Boinc Account Manager (BAM!) logo, for example:

I hope I don't miss anyone....

    WELCOME!

In fact, sonofjabba joins us from another Trek team and has brought with him over 200,000 accumulated points! This puts him temporarily at the top of our entire member list for total points.

---

I am continually impressed, BTW, with how this team has taken off! Never before in the history of TU, on either Grid.org or BOINC, have we had this many members across this many projects performing this amount of noble work on a team this high in the rankings! (full statistics available here) Over the past month we have benefited 11 separate projects and generated nearly 150,000 points! Our membership stands at 43 with 20 actively contributing within the last 30 days.

In one very significant piece of BOINC news: The World Community Grid has decided to convert entirely to BOINC! The decision appears to be based on the fact that United Devices--sponsor of the now-closed Grid.org and developer of a commercial distributed computing platform--is no longer supporting their software. What was once the dominant distributed computing platform now seems to be at an end.

Personal Log - Stardate 80908.16

I've detached my computer from Malaria Control and TANPAKU. Considering that I have only a PIII 800 with 128MBs of ram, Malaria and many other projects can no longer work with me. TANPAKU had work units for me, but their forums are almost silent, and they've been wasting our computer resources--as much as 50%--thanks to the high quorum numbers they have set for their system (IIRC).

In searching for new projects to join I only had to look at our own team project list. We are now crunching (or have crunched) work for 19 different BOINC projects. I decided to try out some of our newest additions:

Cels--a bio project with significant cancer-fighting applications--is one I haven't tried yet since they've had no work. Hopefully it will be as big a success as POEM.

Cosmology--a physics project modeling the universe--would barely run on my computer, making a terrible noise (continuous HD access; memory swaps), and taking far too long for the report deadline. I've disabled it for now and would like to try something else eventually.

POEM--the newest of many protein folding/prediction projects--is my big success. The WUs run quickly and smoothly, and there seems to be plenty of work! I should be able to keep my machine busy between it and Einstein without feeling like I'm wasting my time (ala TANPAKU). POEM just completed a run with the latest CASP8 targets. Don't worry: I barely know what that all means either. ;)

Climate, Rosetta, QMC, Proteins, MilkyWay, etc. are well beyond my PC. SIMAP and LHC have good work, but only on occasion.

Ive been using BOINC for some years. It's about the best use for a Windows machine I can think of (outside of a boat anchor) I do 100% protein folding as I have a rather personal interest in it. I don't belong to any team however.

One of these days I'll have to see if the Linux install has gotten any better. I have two other computers in here that don't work that hard. This one and the stereo box.

Well, I have reached my original goal of processing finally....

Now, all I need is to add more computers to get to my next goal faster!

Well, back to lurking... :eekout:
