Back in February, Google announced that it would begin installing and testing a high-speed fiber-optic network that would supply cities and customers with internet at speeds up to 1 gigabit per second. Naturally, interest was (and still is) high, and cities have been clamoring to get on Google's shortlist of test cities. How do you make yourself stand out from the crowd? Five cities stood out: two renamed themselves, one city's mayor jumped in a frigid lake, another mayor went for a swim with sharks, and one city created the Google logo with glow sticks.
